BIS Organizes Sensitization Program for Sarpanchs and Secretaries of Ajnala Block, Amritsar

Amritsar, February 17: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO), successfully conducted a sensitization program for Sarpanchs, Panchs, and Panchayat Secretaries of Gram Panchayats at the Ajnala Block Office in Amritsar district. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Sandeep Malhotra, District Development and Panchayat Officer, Amritsar, with the presence of Sh. Sukhjit Singh, BDPO, Ajnala, who commended the initiative. The program aimed to raise awareness about BIS standardization and its role in enhancing governance and public service delivery at the grassroots level. Around 50 Panchayat representatives actively participated in the session, gaining valuable insights into the importance of adhering to quality standards in rural governance. Addressing the gathering, Sh. Kamaljit Ghai, the resource person, highlighted the significance of standardization in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of Panchayats. He explained how adopting BIS standards can enhance rural infrastructure, ensure consumer safety, and contribute to the overall development of villages. The session was coordinated by Sh. Ashish Kumar Dwivedi, Standard Promotion Officer, BIS JKBO, who introduced the BIS Care App to the participants. The app allows users to verify the authenticity of BIS-certified products and report substandard goods, thereby strengthening consumer rights and promoting quality assurance. The initiative received overwhelming appreciation from the participants, who acknowledged the importance of integrating quality standards into local governance. This program marks a significant step toward empowering rural representatives with essential knowledge to drive sustainable development and ensure the well-being of their communities.
